Well after a long time, I'm back and of course I'm talking about what seems to be the website's favourite topic, Women.
A female friend of mine has a messenger status which says, “Women are meant to be loved – Not understood.” Sounds cute enough but does it really make any sense? Can you truly love something or someone that you don't have a clue what they are doing or saying? Isn't it possible that these "love us but don't try to understand us" ladies who want to be loved but not understood are simply gold diggers or emotional mercenaries? But you will never understand her evil ways so just love her; our maybe she is crazy and instead of trying to understand her, you should love her.... from a distance.

And it came to pass that the people of Jamdown gathered at the Great Track to witness the 100th staging of Boys Champs (by now Girl's champs was being held alongside Boy's Champs so that it could get some support!). Oh there were many who came to support the Black and Green warriors from Red Hills Road and support was evident for the Purple and White ones; but there was no denying that the Great Track was awash with Maroon and Gold. The Purples were defending champions but they looked depleted, for on this grand occasion the Green and Blacks were being touted as the favourites. There was, however, a dark horse at the track, one that had bided its time, honed its skills and was peaking at the right time.

Reboot - To reload the operating system and restart the computer
Wheel and come again
Sometimes this is what one has to do, reload the rules that control our lives and look at situations anew. Recently while surfing the Internet I came across a piece of information which rocked my world. It shattered the core of my fantasies and secret hopes. I had run into reality like a glass door and similarly, it hurt.
DAGGER THIS AND DAGGER THAT!

With all these talk about daggering this and daggering that and Jamaicans being Jamaicans gyrating and getting on bad to the latest dancehall fad, it seems to me that left behind are one of the key issues that are affecting our society. Daggering has jumped the dancehall fence and is now wreaking havoc on our society. It is no longer safe for women and young girls to go about their daily businesses as they have now become targets for unscrupulous daggerers who seek to dagger them by force.
Should this attack on women be attributed to the latest dancehall fad? In my humble opinion, while I will not lay the blame squarely at the feet of dancehall, it however has contributed to the situation. There are other factors that are responsible for this uprise in violent attacks against our nation’s women and children. One may also say that more gay men are out there than we give credit for and are now on a campaign to rid Jamaica of all women so that they can convert the few straight men that are left behind (no pun intended). But the answer is simple really: This behaviour has been long in coming. It is as a result of a breakdown of respect over the years for women.

It is now one year since Jamnesia has been having its fortnightly entertainment package. I must say happy anniversary to the Jamnesia Talent Show and congratulate the team for bringing something to the table that is different and authentic. The anniversary was celebrated Saturday, August 23rd.
Things kicked off at approximately 11p.m with The Mystic hailing and welcoming the gathering. He handed over the reigns to his daughter Imani, the MC for the event who made her contribution from the onset by reciting some of her poems as well as one her cousin’s poem who apparently was either too ill or too shy to grace the stage himself.
With that out of the way, the baton was handed over to From the Deep, the backing band who got things warmed up for the other performers that would follow. Elizabeth, the barefeet goddess raised the bar immediately with her rendition of Desmond Dekker’s “Poor Me Israelite”, “If the world was a song” and Bob Marley’s "Misty Morning”. Her voice is comparable to Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Jill Scott but the delivery was all her own with a lot of energy on the stage. Her set was nicely done.
Words' Worth-The Power of Words

I remember as a teenager my friends asking me to write love letters for them whenever there was a new girl on the scene that they wanted to impress. I use to think it was somewhat silly to be writing all of this mushy stuff and that the girls would see right through the facade but surprisingly, it worked and that is when I discovered the power of words.
At times, I would have to write follow up letters just to keep the interest going and in return I would be informed of the results of the pursuits. Those were some very interesting stories if they were true.
To have a good command of words regardless of the language places the power of persuasion at your feet. You become a master communicator and don’t the females love that. Nothing excites a female more than a man who is well versed with verses whether they are as charming as Shakespeare, as smooth as L L Cool J or as raw as Vybz Kartel.

Eight Miles, Bull Bay (Wicky Wacky) on a seaside property is where you will find Jamnesia, the home of Billy Mystic from the Mystic Revealers who has opened his home to all who love to see music and poetry that is presented with artistic freedom, wholesome expressions and a good vibes. It is here that local talent is exposed, nurtured and encouraged.
At approximately 12 a.m last Sunday morning, Lano x and I along with our guest, Miss A, rolled into the venue at Jamnesia to get our fortnightly fill of rub-a-dub easy skanking music and aphrodisically dizzyspells-causing poetry. First off, parking was an issue at the venue itself (but if you are like me, there is a lot of space if you decide to park along the roadside) which is good sign for this show. It shows signs of growth and is a signal that this fortnightly event is garnering a strong following.

Welcome back to school. How were the holidays. Hope the sun didn’t burn out all that you learnt. Anyway, lets refresh your memory. This week we are going to be revising figures of speech. A figure of speech (also called a rhetoric, or locution) is a word or phrase that is used in a way that is not straightforward or literal. Figures of speech add colour to conversations, essays, poems and so on. Some rhetoricians have classified as many as 250 separate figures. We are going to be looking at some of the more common ones. Let’s get going.

Over the last couple of months, I have been so caught up with activities at the office that I have had to take a hiatus from my writing hence you readers could not get your fortnightly diet of this column as promised. Now that I am a little less tied up, I have realized that I don’t know what to write. Initially, I thought it was writer’s block but on more careful analysis I found out that this was not the case, at least, not the temporary type.Read more: Write of Passage-Corporate Life: The Slaughtering of Emotions
